A few things worth sorting before you travel.

Bring a little cashMany taxis, beach kitchens, and local spots are cash only. There are ATMs in town, but bring some pesos for your first day so nothing slows you down.

The beach is a short walkThe question we hear most: yes, the beach is close. Playa La Barra, the nearest, is a wild and quiet stretch a few minutes from the door.

Pre-book the extrasA private chef for your first night, a massage at the house, an airport pickup, a little celebration setup. These need a little notice. Tell us before you arrive and we will arrange it.

Best to use WazeWe have found Google Maps doesn't always get the directions right out here, and Waze brings you straight to the door. Both map buttons are below.

Stop for groceries on the way inThe kitchen has the basics, and there is always purified water. For anything more, pick up supplies before you arrive at Chedraui (the big supermarket), Abarrotes Rubí in La Punta, or the Mercado Zicatela.

Finding your way to La Barra

We are in La Barra, a quiet pocket of Puerto Escondido, just past Zicatela. Tap your route below. When you are close, message us and Luis, our manager, will meet you and open up.

  1. Puerto Escondido airport (PXM) is a short ride away. Take an official taxi from the stand outside.
  2. Show the driver the map link below, or ask for Villas Alebrijes in La Barra, near Cinema Zicatela.
  3. Message us when you land so Luis has everything ready and can meet you.

  1. Open Waze if you can. We have found it more reliable than Google Maps for the last stretch out here.
  2. Search for Cinema Zicatela as your landmark.
  3. From the cinema, head to Villas Alebrijes, the private entrance to our community.

Meet the little farmA few steps away is our farm: two donkeys named Lula and Medhi, plus chickens, ducks, and other friends. Guests love it, grown-ups and kids both.

A wild beach to exploreA private path from the garden crosses the street to Playa La Barra in about five minutes, a wild, virgin beach with spectacular sunsets. Our neighbors care for it, so please tread gently and take your trash with you.

We live with natureYou may meet a gecko or a praying mantis; they are gentle neighbors. We compost too, so you'll find a steel can by the sink for organic scraps.
